“What ugly panels on that roof!“
“I’d love to have solar panels, but the eye wants something too.“
“It’s a shame they stand out so much.
Just some of the statements we regularly hear when we ask people about their intention to install solar panels. The message is clear: many people are sympathetic to making their homes more sustainable, but don’t really like the look of those big, bulky solar panels on the roof. This is exactly why we got to work at Solinso and developed the Mystiek solar roof tiles. These are roof tiles in which the solar panels are integrated and therefore do not stand out. They are mainly installed in new construction and renovation projects.
SINCE WHEN IS THERE A NEED FOR AESTHETIC SOLAR PANELS?
The supply of solar panels started about 15 years ago with panels with shiny frames and blue solar cells. 10 years ago came the first solar panels made completely black. However, these panels continued to stand out. Fortunately, science did not sit still and indak systems were developed. Indak solar panels are panels that are already recessed into the roof tiles. The first inconspicuous and even invisible solar panels were a reality. Although the indak system is often used as a synonym of solar roof tiles , the latter is more of an upgrade. This is because sunroof tiles are part of the building envelope, whereas with an indak system, you need to take additional measures yourself to ensure the smooth running of the water barrier on the roof, for example.
WHAT MAKES MYSTIC SOLAR PANELS SO AESTHETICALLY PLEASING?
So the development of Mystique solar roof tiles is all about making solar panels more beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. But what can you see that in?
SLEEK LINES
All Mystique solar roof tiles fit seamlessly between the flat roof tiles and are thus fully integrated into the roof. Also, the horizontal line pattern of the roof is not affected. A Mystic solar roof tile replaces about 5 to 6 tiles, depending on the roof tile type. In addition, there are smaller solar roof tiles that serve as convenient fitting pieces to ensure the clean lines at all times.
INVISIBLE SOLAR PANELS
Also because of the seamless adaptation to the line pattern, the aesthetic solar panels become almost invisible. The Mystique solar roof tiles have a glass surface with a matt surface texture. If you want the solar roof tiles to be as inconspicuous and invisible as possible, it is a good idea to choose the combination with a black-glazed roof tile, in technical terms the roof tile then has an engobe surface. This is chosen in many of our projects. In combination with other roof tile colours, such as grey, slate colour, anthracite or red rustic, the black Mystic solar roof tiles will stand out more, though. Yet this often also gives the right aesthetic effect. Look for examples on our orientation page and get inspired by the possibilities.
COLORFAST SOLAR TILES
Mystique solar roof tiles are completely colorfast. You certainly can’t always say that about “regular solar panels. If you pay attention, you can see that on homes where regular ‘all-black solar panels’ are now installed, there are regular color differences between the solar panels. A purplish and/or brown glow is common. By omitting processing in the production process, such color differences do not occur with Solinso solar panels. This contributes to the beautiful, aesthetic appearance of our solar roof tiles.
GOOD PERFORMANCE
Mystique’s aesthetic solar panels already integrated into the roof tiles have a high performance. They are comparable to alternatives. For example, you can generate up to 4300 kWh of electricity on a roof area of 25 square meters. This is virtually the same if you fill the same roof area with less aesthetic solar panels. Mystique solar roof tiles provide at least 25 years of electricity production (with a warranty of better than 80% over new value).
WHAT IS THE PAYBACK PERIOD FOR BEAUTIFUL SOLAR PANELS?
With solar panels, payback time is an important item. It is no different for solar roof tiles as well. The question is therefore often asked: what is the difference in payback time between beautiful solar roof tiles and solar panels installed on the roof? To answer this, it is important to also consider the entire roof and the increase in value of the home with beautiful solar roof tiles.
PRICING OF BEAUTIFUL SOLAR TILES
Compared to solar panels, solar roof tiles are more expensive at first glance. However, it should be taken into account that solar roof tiles are already a part of the building envelope. So they are roof tiles and solar panels in one. This also saves you many costs, such as:
- Saving on roof tiles
- Saving on the substructure: normal solar panels are mounted on a frame, Solinso Mystic is mounted directly on the roof batten.
- Saving on labor hours to install the roof tiles and a substructure
- Less raw material is needed on the roof (because many kilos of clay and aluminum are saved). This saves CO2 emissions.
- No grinding work (labor) is required on the roof tiles to connect to Mystique
- In addition, the roof area can be better utilized for solar power generation, allowing more kWh to be harvested
INCREASE THE VALUE OF THE HOUSE
The beautiful Mystique solar roof tiles increase the value of the house considerably. When you factor this into the payback calculation, you can say that you have already earned back the solar roof tiles the moment they are installed.
